Entrepreneurship:
Overview:

The topic of entrepreneurship appear to attract ever growing attention in both the developed western economies and the developing economies of the third world. This is particularly so at times of harsh economic realities ( like the prevailing economic crunch since 2007) and the attendant rise in unemployment right across the labour market.
People's tendency to engage in entrepreneurial activities like acquiring skills and knowledge for self employment, starting their own businesses, and being innovative are commonly held as panacea to such economic down turn and the unemployment problems nations face. Consequently governments, organisations and corporate entities appear to subscribe to such tendency by providing both financial and other resources to encourage a wider uptake of entrepreneurship.
But the concept of entrepreneurship is not a new phenomenon. People have been innovating, starting and running their ventures for as far as history cares to record. Moreover, entrepreneurship tend to mean different thing to different schools of thought. Notwithstanding they all appear to agree that it has something to do with starting and running a business. To some entrepreneurship is just an aspect of labour; an art; a science; an elusive abstraction and yet to others it is neither of these or all of these plus more.
In effect, for entrepreneurship to be the ‘engine’ that would drive the economies of the world, especially those of the developing African and Asian nations forward, it is important to establish a clear understanding of what entrepreneurship is. The process would entail addressing issues such as the following:

• what is entrepreneurship,
• who is an entrepreneur,
• does the ownership of a business make one an entrepreneur,
• once the entrepreneur has started up the new business does he/she still have a leading day to day roles to play;
• for how long and
• what impacts on the business;
• what are the differences between entrepreneurship and management,
• how does the entrepreneur go about creating and organising businesses successfully.?
